1(a) Filing requirements for PCT National Phase Entry in Japan
- Specification including title, description, claims, abstract and drawings
- PCT Application number and date thereof
- Registered name, address and nationality of the Applicant
- Name and address of the Inventor
- Copies of amendment under Article 19 or 34 - optional
Note: A Power of Attorney is not required to file a patent application in Japan.
In the case where a request for entering the national phase in Japan is filed within one month from the deadline of filing, a Japanese translation of the specification may be filed within two months from the filing date.
1(b) Filing requirements for patent applications in Japan (Paris Convention)
- Specification including title, description, claims, abstract and drawings
- Registered name, address and nationality of the Applicant
- Name and address of the Inventor
- Convention Priority Details including country, date, the Applicant and number of basic priority application(s)
Note: A Power of Attorney is not required to file a patent application in Japan.
2.Filing requirements for Trademark Applications in Japan
- Style of the trademark
- List of designated goods or services
- Registered name, address and nationality of the Applicant
- A certified copy of a basic priority application

3. Filing requirements for Utility Model Applications in Japan
- Specification including title, description, claims, abstract and drawings
- Registered name, address and nationality of the Applicant
- Name and address of the Inventor
- Convention Priority Details including country, date, the Applicant and number of basic priority application(s)
Note: A Power of Attorney is not required to file a utility model application in Japan.
4. Filing requirements for Design Applications in Japan
- Drawings of the design (Six views of the article, orthographic drawings)
- An article or articles to which the design is applied
- Registered name, address and nationality of the Applicant
- Name and address of the creator of the design
- Dimensions and material of the article or articles, if the appearance varies according to the dimensions and material
- Characteristics of the design (Brief description of the design)
- Part which has novelty of design
- Statement as to whether a part design or a whole design
- Convention Priority Details including country, date, the Applicant and number of basic priority application(s)
Note: A Power of Attorney is not required to file a design application in Japan.
